The word "Monte" means in Alentejo, the house of the big farms( herdades). However, the "Monte Alentejano" is in the main avenue ( National Road) of Montemor-o-Novo and remains the name of the restaurant of the new Hotel Montemor.

Montemor-o-Novo is a very old town where the voyage of Vasco da Gama was decided by the portuguese King D. Manuel I. It is served by A6, 100kms of distance from Lisbon and 30kms from Évora.

Raul David, an architect well known in Évora and in the entire region, by his knowledge of the classic local architecture, projected the first building in 1951. Now, it was intirely remodeled, with one more floor ( 20 rooms, 4 suites, with fine accommodations and all the necessary amenities). The restaurant "Monte Alentejano" is known by its excellent regional food.
